  Scafell Pike

A photographic guide to the lakeland fells - Eskdale & Black Coombe

One of the quietest dales in the ELD gives access to the Slightside aproach to Scafell  as well as the upper Eskdale route. Harter Fell, an interesting hill with a rocky summit and good views of Scafell, can be approached from Boot along the attractive river Esk. A number of easy walks are available to local waterfalls (Stanley Force), Devoke Water and sundry minor fells. A pleasant and unspoilt area. Boot makes an ideal base and boasts two pubs, The Brook House Inn (go to Brook House site) and The Burnmoor Inn. The Woolpack Inn is nearby. Hardknott gives good views of Scafell Pike.
From many vantage points in Eskdale, Black Coombe can be seen to the south and is worth a visit for its views of the southern lakeland hills.
Esk Pike is perhaps more easily approached from Wasdale, but the approach from Upper Eskdale gives a quiet walk and good views of the east faces of Scafell Pike
