Both the "Prospect of Whitby" and "The Town of Ramsgate" have old narrow passages alongside, leading down to the Thames where greasy steps slip down into the river. All are named "stairs", "Wapping Old Stairs", "Aldermans' Stairs", "Stone Stairs" etc.
